eheim jager heater lights guide

Jager Heaters are a well-known brand of aquarium heating let’s take a look at how one sets up and runs this type of heater.

There are a few lights dials and switches to get a grip of the process of lights is as follows Once the heater has been placed in the tank and switched on the light should be a steady red indicating heater working lights off its reached the desired temp orange this is the coils heating up the element showing the heaters operational.

Jager Heater Setup

First, we should have our suction cups we then should have our holder clips and heater attach the holder to the suction cups and clip together place over the heater, and connect together you now have the heater ready to place into the tank.

Place the heater vertically into the tank near the bottom close as possible to the air vent filter and or good water flow once you have the desired place where water flows best and are happy  fix the heater in place using the suction cups,

Now we are ready to plug the heater into the outlet make sure first to perform A drip loop simply allows the cord to drop down below your outlet before rising back up to it.

Now we can test the heater!

Light Steady Red

Once you turn the heater on the light should turn on and be a steady red which indicates all is working fine after we set the temperature to the desired degree the red light will stay on until it reaches the correct settings.

Light Turns Of

After the heater reaches the desired settings and has warmed the water sufficiently the light will go out this is perfectly ok this just indicates that the settings have been reached and the water is at the correct temp the light will

stay off until the water starts to cool once this happens the light will go back on indicating that the heater has turned on again and has started to heat the water again.

Light Orange

There have been some concerns within the fish community over an orange light the orange light is nothing to be feared it does not mean the heaters are broken or indicate a problem in fact it implies all is working as the orange light is a coil element heating up the same as in a toaster or hairdryer this is normal and the heater is working fine.

Setting Temperature

Now we know more about our Eheim jager heater we have it in place and have checked it over switched the heater on and seen the red light now we need to check the settings and put it to the correct temp to do this simply turn the

selector ring in the centre of the heater to the desired degree 72f for instance and give the heater up to 24 hours to reach the temp always checking against a separate thermometer.

If after 24 hours everything is fine and the desired temp has been reached and the heater has switched off then all is good.

If however, the temp is out a few degrees here or there then we can simply adjust the temp via the selector ring if too cold turn it up a couple of degrees and give a few hours to warm the water, and then recheck the same goes for if to hot just readjust a few degrees or so down and recheck.

As long as the error is only a few degrees on either side we can easily adjust we should never go by the heater’s settings and should be checking periodically via a good thermometer.

Recalibration Procedure

Recalibration should only be attempted after a few days of acclimatization in conjunction with a good thermometer as recalibration usually voids any warrant.

But if after a few days you cant get desired temp you can follow these simple instructions first switch the heater off and unplug from the mains keep submerged under the water take an accurate reading of the waters temp via a

thermometer next on the control dial pull button out as far as it will go adjust the temperature to the heat of the water via the selector ring and line the arrow on the ring to the current heat of water push the button back in as far as

it will go and recalibration should now be complete you can plug the heater back in and switch it back on heater should now be at the desired temp!

Size Of Heater

Models range from 3601-3609 and between 25 watts all the way to 300 watts which gives you from 26 litres all the way to 1000 litres or 4.4 gallons up to 220 gallons so there’s a little something for everyone.
